Being different is a good thing. As difficult as it might be, accepting who you are and embracing your diversity will help you live a better and happier life. These are the reasons why being different is awesome.
If you belong to those people who spend their entire life wishing they were just like somebody else, you must hear what comes next. STOP. Just stop. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop trying to fit a box that doesn’t fit you. Stop hiding who you are, for the sake of being someone who you are not. Being different is actually a good thing. Being different is natural and you should never be ashamed of following your inner voice.
I am different
I am proud to say it out loud: I AM DIFFERENT. When I was a teenager, I used to struggle with accepting my flaws and tried so hard to be similar to the people around me. Guess what—I was terribly miserable because I could never be the same.
A friend of mine once told me: being comfortable with yourself is all you need to be happy. Unless you accept yourself the way you are, you will never be able to enjoy your life to the fullest.
Being different can also be difficult
The truth is, sometimes I am still struggling. I wish I could wear high heels and ride a bike, or go to a first date without having the dilemma if I should let him know in advance about my disability. Yes, sunshine, sometimes being different is so freaking hard. What you need to remember is: as difficult as it might be, being different never makes you worse. You are who you are—and whoever doesn’t like it does not deserve to stay in your life.
Here are a few reasons why being different is a good thing (from my own experience).
You are unique and authentic, and nobody’s you
You attract those who truly vibe with you
People love you for you
You appreciate the uniqueness of others
You get to play by your own rules (FYI, this does not apply to street parking, these are rules you gotta follow)
You get noticed right away (so use it at your advantage)
Your life flows more naturally
You will have fewer regrets
You are courageous and brave, and a much needed inspiration to someone
Be brave enough to embrace your imperfections and turn them into the source of your creativity. Be courageous enough to tear off the labels and do what feels real and natural. Be different, be yourself and eventually you’ll realize that you don’t need to be someone else to find love.
